June 8th - Alder Valley League

Maidenhead AC sisters, Keren Hollands (14) and Bryony (12), were celebrating a successful couple of weeks of track & field, as both won their discus events at the Alder Valley League match on Sunday, and each bagged a junior club record within the space of 5 days. Keren's progress in the hammer continued apace after winning the Berkshire County U15 title last month. Her 26.66m at that event was surpassed with all 5 of her legal throws at the Southern U15/U17 Championships a fortnight later as she finished 4th with a new Personal Best (PB) of 30.81m to go 11th in the UK age-rankings. She consolidated this at Watford on Wednesday with 29.23m Meanwhile, Bryony was busy cutting another 6 seconds off her 800m PB to run 2:56.56 for a new club best performance. On Sunday both girls were in action in the discus. Bryony set a PB of 18.06m to win the U13 event and move inside the UK's top 25. Within the hour, Keren had made it a family double as she also threw a PB of 21.66m to take the club junior record. However, despite throwing a PB in the javelin too, Keren didn't get things all her own way as Jess Davies pipped her in the shot with 6.77m to 6.60m. Davies also recorded 14.28m in the discus and 3.78 in the long jump, with Leanne Smith throwing the shot 4.99m, discus 12.00m & over 8m in the javelin. Lauren Hing was the sole U17 representative, jumping to 3.95m in the long jump and 1.35m in the high jump. Other available results in the U13's were Jane Allen (discus 13.62m PB), Zoe Overall (discus 13.57m, 75m in 11.7sec), Bryony Hollands (75m Hurdles 13.8sec, 150m 23.5 sec PB). The team was completed with two new under-11 members, Justine Griffiths (Long Jump 2.75m, 75m 11.9 sec (2nd place)) and Shannon Pomfrett (Long Jump 2.43m, 75m 12.4 sec (4th place)).

Paul Bradley was second man home for MAC in 39.45, earning him a silver in the Berks Champs over 50 category. Peter Bark followed up his recent marathon personal best with another PB here, romping home in 42.23. Jim Tarrant clocked 41.08, Tim Holt 43.50 and Neil Bennett 45.03.
